Center for Mathematical Sciences
The Center for Mathematical Sciences (CMS) was set up at the Technion in the year 2001 to promote research in the diverse areas of mathematics and its applications. The CMS incorporates the activities supported by the Mallat Family Fund for Research in Mathematics, as well as the Institute of Advanced Studies in Mathematics (IASM), which was established at the Technion in 1988, and has recently been renamed the Elisha Netanyahu Institute of Advanced Studies in Mathematics.
The first activity of the IASM, a special semester on optimization and nonlinear analysis, took place in the academic year 1989/90. Since then, the IASM has sponsored and organized numerous activities including workshops, conferences and special lecture series, covering a great variety of topics in the areas of algebra, analysis, applied mathematics, discrete mathematics, geometry and topology. These activities have brought together many prominent mathematicians from all over the world, and have led to a lively and fruitful exchange of ideas.
