Herman (Chaim) Müntz (1884-1956)

This is a photo of a portrait of Müntz in the possesion of Goran David Gerby. The portrait was a gift of Herman Müntz to Gunnar Gerby. Gunnar and Monica Gerby, and Rabbi Emil Kronheim (Monica's father), were friends of Müntz in his later years.

Müntz, Ch. H., Über den Approximationssatz von Weierstrass, in H. A. Schwarz's Festschrift, Berlin, 1914, pp. 303-312. This paper contains the original proof of the Müntz Completeness Theorem. It affirmatively answers a question posed by S. N. Bernstein two years previously.
