Welcome to the Department of Mathematics
The Department of Mathematics at the Technion was founded in 1950.
Today it is one of the leading mathematics departments in Israel.
The faculty is engaged in world-class research in both pure and
applied Mathematics.
The
research interests of our faculty include algebra, applied mathematics,
approximation theory, combinatorics, complex analysis, differential equations, ergodic
theory, functional analysis, geometry and topology, linear algebra,
nonlinear analysis, number theory, optimization theory, and
probability theory.
The Center for Mathematical Sciences
(CMS) was founded at the department in 1988. Since then it supports a large variety of
research activities, conferences, special lecture series, workshops, etc. The department offers a variety of undergraduate and graduate programs, both in pure and applied Mathematics. Undergraduate students are offered also joint programs with Physics and with Computer Science. In addition, the department provides courses in Mathematics for students in all other Technion departments. The department also organizes youth events for gifted high school students such as the Grossman competition in Mathematics and a summer camp in Number Theory (TOMBA 17/19).
