THE ELISHA NETANYAHU INSTITUTE OF
ADVANCED STUDIES IN MATHEMATICS
The Institute of Advanced Studies in Mathematics which was established at the Technion in 1989, has achieved its goal in becoming the center of excellence in mathematical research that was envisaged by its founders. Through the activities of the Institute, contacts with the international mathematical community have been expanding steadily. At the same time, cooperation has increased amongst faculty members in different departments of the Technion who are engaged in mathematical research. The International activities hosted by the Institute, such as workshops, seminars, symposia, mini-courses and lecture series, bring leading mathematicians from all corners of the world to the Technion to participate in these events.
Recently, an endowment fund for the Institute was pledged by Amos Milo (brother of the late Professor Elisha Netanyahu) and his wife Anna. The IASM has now been renamed the Elisha Netanyahu Institute of Advanced Studies in Mathematics. Both the Institute and the activities funded by the Ascher Mallah Grant (set up by Alexander Mallat and his family) form part of the newly established Center for Mathematical Sciences (CMS), which will continue to fulfill the important role of promoting research in the mathematical sciences at the Technion.
